Run A2 Run

UPDATE 06/03/2017
Since I re-picked up my running habit, I've tried a few new trails.
A general tip: when run in warm months, consider bringing bug repellent.
1. Waterloo Pinckney
This one is quite enjoyable. About half an hour from AA (which is also the case for Potawatomi and Brighton), this trail offers quite a bit challenge for an average runner. Some hills are steep and long. It would fit runners who decide to push themselves just a little bit harder, while enjoy most of the run. Note that some sections of the trail is not clearly directed, and paying attention to where you are heading is recommended.
2. Potawatomi
This trail is long, variable, fun, and easy to run. Ups and downs are moderate and an average runner does not need to stop for a breather after an uphill section. The ground is moderately soft. With lots of small lakes and waters nearby, this place is also a BBQ favorite. Just imagine: after a cool morning run, a small group of runners doing yoga by the lake shore, right by their side on the grills BBQ is about to be ready... The breeze, the smell of pepper, the song from birds...
3. Birds Hill
At the city limit of AA, there is a small park named Birds Hill. The trail is pretty short, with a little altitude change. To-go place for a weekday, short run if not in the mood for Nichol's Arb.
4. Torn Shirt at Brighton Recreation Area
A popular mountain biking trail, about 5.5 miles. I have not ran there, but backpacked. This is a difficult trail for sure, more challenging than Nichol's Arb. Try it if a runner is ambitious. Or save it for mountain biking - maybe a runner will find a new hobby (cheers🎉).

This is your ultimate trail running guide in Ann Arbor.
Best trail running app: AllTrails. Available on both iOS and Android system, as well as website https://www.alltrails.com/.
Popularity award: Gallup park area. Centered about the Gallup park at Fuller Rd & Huron Pkwy, along Huron River, mostly paved and flat, this trail can become crowded if you go at the right time. Besides running, biking is also popular here. This trail goes all the way to Ypsi if you want it. Scenery is OK, pretty much what one can expect from typical city riverside views.
Hidden gem award: Nichols Arboretum. Packed within a limited space, the secondary trails in Nichols Arboretum offer steep inclines and declines of dirt and fallen leaves. It could get real quite inside the woods. Just be aware, some areas are private so watch out for the "no trespass" signs.
Bomb award: UM gyms. Bad ventilation. High humidity. Don't run there.
Alright. That's all a climber needs to know.
